What is Freemasonry
Freemasonry is a system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols.
It is neither a religion nor a substitute for one, it is not a political organisation and it seeks no material gain. It is a brotherhood of free men of good repute who pursue moral and spiritual self-improvement.
The working tools of the ancient builder — square, compasses, level and gavel — become symbols of an inner work: refining one’s character and serving society.
The three degrees
A Freemason progresses through three degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason.
